a note from the studio

The highest summit in Wyoming, at 13,804 feet on the Continental Divide. Granite and ice. Gannett Glacier wraps the north side, the largest single glacier in the American Rockies. Every standard route to the top crosses snow, even in August. The approach from Elkhart Park is long; the approach from Trail Lake on the east side is longer. Climbers spend a week getting there and back, and the summit is small enough that only a few people stand on it at a time. from the studio

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Gannett Peak (highest in Wyoming)

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Gannett Peak is the highest summit in Wyoming at 13,809 feet (4,209 m), rising on the Continental Divide in the Wind River Range. It sits on the boundary between Fremont and Sublette counties, with the Fitzpatrick Wilderness of Shoshone National Forest on its east flank and the Bridger Wilderness of Bridger-Teton National Forest on the west. The peak was named in 1906 for Henry Gannett, chief geographer of the U.S. Geological Survey. It is widely regarded as the most remote of the contiguous-state high points.

the water

Seven named glaciers ring the upper mountain. Gannett Glacier on the north face is the largest single glacier in the American Rockies outside Alaska, though it has lost roughly half its area since the late nineteenth century. Dinwoody Glacier covers the east side and feeds Dinwoody Creek down into the Wind River Indian Reservation. The standard west-side route ascends the Gooseneck Glacier and crosses a bergschrund below the summit ridge. Every route on the mountain involves snow and ice travel even at the height of summer.

the visit

Two long approaches are standard. From the west, Elkhart Park above Pinedale leads about twenty-five miles through Titcomb Basin to the Bonney Pass crossing and the Gooseneck route. From the east, Trail Lake outside Dubois climbs Glacier Trail roughly twenty-three miles to a Dinwoody Glacier base camp. Most parties take five to eight days round trip. The reliable climbing window is mid-July through August. Bear-resistant food storage is required, and group size in the Bridger Wilderness is capped at fifteen.

about the place

Gannett Peak rises to 13,809 feet (4,209 m), the highest summit in Wyoming. It stands on the Continental Divide in the Wind River Range, on the Fremont and Sublette county line.

Every route involves a multi-day approach, glacier travel, and a snow or ice crossing near the summit. There is no shorter way in; the closest trailheads sit twenty miles away by foot.

Henry Gannett, chief geographer of the U.S. Geological Survey and a founder of the National Geographic Society. The peak received his name in 1906, the year after his death.

Seven named glaciers ring the mountain. Gannett Glacier on the north is the largest single glacier in the American Rockies outside Alaska. Dinwoody Glacier on the east feeds the Wind River Indian Reservation.

Mid-July through August is the reliable window. Earlier in the season, deep snow makes the approach harder; later, the bergschrund on the Gooseneck route opens up and route-finding gets serious.

Yes. The standard route requires crampons, ice axe, rope, and glacier-travel skills. Most parties carry a small alpine rack for the summit ridge. Trip length is typically five to eight days.

about the piece in your home

It has been a meaningful gift for many of our customers chasing the contiguous forty-eight high points. Gannett is the one that takes a week. A Medium with a handwritten note from the studio carries the weight of the climb.

The granite and glacier-blue palette suits Mountain-modern, Alpine, and clean Scandinavian-leaning interiors. It also holds against a warm cabin scheme of wool, leather, and oak.

Yes. Alpine-modern continues to lean on cool stone, glacial blues, and uncluttered walls. The stained-glass treatment of the summit gives the tile a graphic edge that suits a feature wall.

Above a standard sofa or long console, the single Large reads as a window onto the divide. For a wider wall, a 4-tile Mural opens it up, and a 9-tile Mural becomes the room.

Yes. Choose the Dura Satin or Matte finish for any room with steam or splash. Both finishes are scratch-resistant and hold up to daily wipe-downs without losing depth of colour.

A soft microfibre cloth and plain water is all the tile needs. For the glossy finish, dry with a second cloth to keep the surface streak-free. Avoid abrasive cleaners and ammonia-based sprays.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original work from our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee. There is no licensing, no third-party art. Reid Wender curates the atlas and signs off on every place that enters it.
