Valleyfair

— the white-knuckle weekend everyone in the metro remembers from twelve.

Where it lives

Not only on a wall.

A small tile on the nightstand catching the morning. A larger one above the fire. Yours, wherever you spend the slow hours.
On the nightstand, a 6-inch on a walnut stand
Among the books, a 6-inch leaning into the spines
Beside the kettle, a 12-inch propped
Down a quiet hall, an 18-inch floating off the wall
Above the fire, the 24-inch in a walnut surround
a note from the studio

A Cedar Fair amusement park on the bend of the Minnesota River in Shakopee, opened in 1976 and folded into the Six Flags portfolio after the 2024 merger. Wild Thing climbs to 207 feet over the floodplain; Renegade runs the wooden track that traces the trees on the south fence. Soak City fills the back forty in summer. The park closes in late October with Valleyscare.

Valleyfair, on ceramic.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

the place

Valleyfair is a 125-acre amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota, about twenty-five miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis on the south bank of the Minnesota River. The park opened in 1976 under the Family Entertainment Centers banner, was acquired by Cedar Fair in 1978, and joined the merged Six Flags Entertainment Corporation portfolio in 2024. The site holds eight roller coasters, the Soak City waterpark, and a seasonal Haunt-format event called Valleyscare each October. Annual attendance has averaged around 1.3 million in recent reporting years from the park's parent company.

the visit

The park runs a seasonal calendar from early May through late October, with Soak City open Memorial Day through Labor Day. Wild Thing, the park's tallest coaster at 207 feet with a 196-foot first drop, opened in 1996. Renegade, the wooden coaster on the south side, opened in 2007 and runs a 1,749-foot circuit. Steel Venom and Power Tower handle the height-thrill segment. A single-day ticket runs roughly 55 to 80 dollars at the gate, with season passes priced significantly lower per visit across the calendar.

the year

Valleyfair opens the second weekend of May with a soft preview and runs to the final weekend of October, when Valleyscare overlays the day park with mazes, fog, scare zones, and seasonal lighting. Soak City, the included waterpark, runs Memorial Day through Labor Day. Most of the park is outdoor and weather-sensitive: Minnesota humidity peaks in July, and Valleyscare evenings can drop below freezing by late October. The season pass model encourages multiple short visits across the calendar rather than single long days at the park.

about the place

1976. The park was founded by Family Entertainment Centers, sold to Cedar Fair in 1978, and joined the Six Flags Entertainment Corporation portfolio after the Cedar Fair and Six Flags merger completed in 2024.

Eight at present count, ranging from the family-tier Excalibur and Mad Mouse to the headliner steel coaster Wild Thing at 207 feet tall and the wooden coaster Renegade on the park's south side.

In Shakopee, Minnesota, about twenty-five miles southwest of downtown Minneapolis, on the south bank of the Minnesota River. The site is about a forty-minute drive from Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport in normal traffic.

Yes. Soak City is the on-site waterpark, included with park admission, and runs Memorial Day through Labor Day each season. It holds wave pools, a lazy river, and a slate of tube and body slides.

about the piece in your home

It carries well for that audience. Valleyfair is one of the shared coming-of-age memories of the metro: field trips, summer birthdays, the Wild Thing line in July. A Small or Coaster suits a desk.

The bold blacks and saturated colour suit Pop-modern, Mid-century Maximalist, and rec-room or basement-bar interiors. It also reads well in a Minimalist office as a single anchored statement against a white wall.

Yes. The recent return to specific regional landmarks, a state fair, a hometown ballpark, the local amusement park, has displaced the generic vintage poster in nostalgic Americana rooms and basement bars.

A single Large reads well above a small console or in a hallway. Above a standard sofa, a four-tile Mural fills the wall properly, and a nine-tile Mural anchors a larger living room or rec room.

Yes, in the Dura Satin or Matte finish. The surface resists scratches and moisture, and the colour lives in the ceramic rather than on top of it, so steam and splash do not affect it.

A microfibre cloth and water are enough for routine dusting. For a deeper clean, a mild dish soap with a soft cloth is safe. Avoid abrasive pads or solvent-based cleaners on the surface.

Yes. Reid Wender curates the WenderVista atlas, and each tile is painted, finished, and shipped from our Knoxville studio. No licensing, no third-party prints, one studio behind the whole catalogue.
