“Marine park on Mission Bay, opened in March of 1964 with four founders and a sea lion show. Today it sits on about 190 acres of waterfront, with killer whales, beluga, sea turtles, and a row of steel roller coasters that wasn't there a decade ago. Orca breeding ended in 2016. The view from the Skytower still carries down the bay to Point Loma and out past the kelp. — from the studio
Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

SeaWorld San Diego sits on the southern shore of Mission Bay, about ten kilometres northwest of downtown San Diego. The park opened on 21 March 1964, founded by four UCLA graduates who first imagined an underwater restaurant. The site has grown to roughly 190 acres on the bay, with exhibits, aquaria, and a small set of thrill rides. The park is operated by United Parks and Resorts, which also runs SeaWorld Orlando and SeaWorld San Antonio. It draws around four million visitors a year, the second-most-visited theme park in California after Disneyland.
The park's marine collection centres on the killer whale habitat, expanded in 2017 to about 5.8 million gallons. SeaWorld announced the end of its orca breeding programme in March 2016, after sustained public pressure following the 2013 documentary Blackfish; the orcas now living at the park will be the last generation in its care. Other exhibits include beluga whales, Pacific walrus, sea turtles, leopard sharks, and a colony of California sea lions. Mission Bay outside the park is a marine reserve, and dolphins sometimes pass the breakwater near the park's south edge.
The park runs throughout the year, with extended summer hours, fireworks in summer, and a winter Christmas Celebration that adds lights along the bay. Standard admission runs higher at the gate than online; annual passes include parking and discounts at SeaWorld Orlando. The signature attractions are Emperor, a 153-foot floorless dive coaster opened in 2022, and the historic Skytower, a 320-foot observation needle dating from 1969. Parking and the main entrance face south off SeaWorld Drive. Allow a full day in summer; six hours is sufficient off-season.
