Cleetwood Cove trail descent

— the one path that reaches the water.

Where it lives

Not only on a wall.

A small tile on the nightstand catching the morning. A larger one above the fire. Yours, wherever you spend the slow hours.
On the nightstand, a 6-inch on a walnut stand
Among the books, a 6-inch leaning into the spines
Beside the kettle, a 12-inch propped
Down a quiet hall, an 18-inch floating off the wall
Above the fire, the 24-inch in a walnut surround
a note from the studio

Cleetwood Cove is the single trail that descends from the rim of Crater Lake to the shore. About 1.1 miles each way, dropping roughly 700 feet through pumice switchbacks on the lake's north side. The climb back is the elevation reversed at 6,800 feet, and people underestimate it. The trail is the only point of access for the park boat tours to Wizard Island. from the studio

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Cleetwood Cove trail descent

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Cleetwood Cove Trail is on the north rim of Crater Lake, in Crater Lake National Park, Klamath County, southern Oregon. The trail runs about 1.1 miles one way and drops roughly 700 feet from the trailhead on Rim Drive down to the lake shore at a small cove. It is the only legal route from the rim to the water and the only embarkation point for the park's concessioner boat tours, including the run to Wizard Island. The trailhead sits at an elevation near 6,800 feet, and the lake surface below holds at about 6,178 feet.

the water

Crater Lake sits in the caldera of Mount Mazama, a stratovolcano that collapsed in a major eruption roughly 7,700 years ago. The lake is fed entirely by rain and snow, with no inflowing or outflowing streams, and reaches a measured maximum depth of 1,949 feet — the deepest lake in the United States and one of the deepest in the world. The water clarity has been measured at depths beyond 130 feet using a Secchi disk, and the colour reads as a deep, saturated blue because the water is unusually pure and the lake is unusually deep.

the visit

Cleetwood Cove Trail is typically open from late June through mid-October, depending on snowpack and trail repairs. The park has closed the trail for multi-year rehabilitation work in recent seasons; current status should be checked at the National Park Service site before any visit. When open, the descent is moderate but the return climb is strenuous at altitude, and is often compared to climbing 65 flights of stairs. Swimming is permitted from the rocks at the cove, briefly: surface water temperatures rarely exceed the mid-50s Fahrenheit even in August.

about the piece in your home

Yes. Crater Lake is one of the most recognised landscapes in the American West, and the descent to the water is the moment many visitors remember most. A Medium or Large with a studio note carries well.

The deep saturated blues, volcanic greys, and pumice tones suit mountain-modern, Pacific Northwest, and minimalist Scandinavian interiors. It also reads well against white plaster or dark wood paneling.

Yes. Saturated water-blue paired with mineral greys has stayed strong in biophilic and wellness-led palettes. The Crater Lake artwork sits inside that range without leaning toward generic ocean décor.

Above a console, a single Large sits cleanly. Above a sofa, a 4-tile Mural carries the wall; for a long sectional or great-room, a 9-tile Mural holds the proportion better.

Yes, in the Dura Satin or Matte finish. Both handle steam, splash, and daily wiping. Reserve the Glossy finish for framed wall art in dry living and bedroom spaces.

A soft microfibre cloth with water handles routine cleaning. Mild dish soap is safe on Dura Satin and Matte finishes. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and ammonia-based cleaners on any finish.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original to our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee. We do not license the artwork or sell the visual outside our own catalogue.
