Not only on a wall.

a note from the studio

Niagara is two falls, one river, and a boat at the bottom. Horseshoe carries the bulk of the flow, about 600,000 gallons a second over a 2,600-foot crest, and the spray climbs back up the gorge in a steady white column. The Maid of the Mist runs into that column from below, blue rain jackets against the green water. From the rim, the people on her deck look impossibly small.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Niagara is signature: lock the Horseshoe Falls plume mist and the Maid of the Mist scale-of-human framing

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Niagara Falls sits on the Niagara River between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, on the border between New York and Ontario. Three falls make up the cataract — Horseshoe (Canadian), American, and Bridal Veil — separated by Goat Island and Luna Island on the U.S. side. The Horseshoe Falls crest runs about 2,600 feet wide and 167 feet high; the American Falls about 1,060 feet wide and 100 feet to the talus pile at the base (Niagara Parks Commission).

the water

Average flow over the Horseshoe in peak summer is roughly 600,000 gallons per second, with night and off-season flows reduced by hydroelectric diversion under a 1950 U.S.-Canada treaty (Niagara Parks Commission). The plume above the crest is the falls vaporizing on impact and rising back up the gorge wall. On cold January mornings the spray freezes mid-air and coats the railings and trees on both sides in a hard rime.

the visit

The Maid of the Mist operates from the U.S. side at Prospect Point from roughly late April through October, weather permitting, carrying passengers in blue ponchos into the base of the Horseshoe. The Hornblower Niagara Cruises run the same route from the Canadian side in red ponchos. Niagara Falls State Park is open year-round; the Cave of the Winds wooden decks on Goat Island run seasonally (Niagara Falls State Park).

Roughly 2,600 feet along the curving crest, more than three times the width of the American Falls. The Horseshoe carries about 90 percent of the river's total flow over the cataract.

About 600,000 gallons per second over the Horseshoe in peak summer flow, with night and winter flows reduced by hydroelectric diversion under a 1950 U.S.-Canada treaty (Niagara Parks).

The U.S.-side boat tour from Prospect Point that runs passengers in blue ponchos into the base of the Horseshoe Falls. It operates roughly late April through October, weather permitting.

about the piece in your home

Yes. Anniversary buyers and Western New York or Ontario families recognize the falls and the Maid of the Mist quickly. A Medium or Large reads well on a main wall.

The deep greens, whites, and blues hold up in coastal-modern, lake-house, traditional, and Hudson Valley modern interiors. It sits well against white trim and dark wood.

It fits inside biophilic and water-focused interiors, which lean on real-place artwork rather than generic seascapes or abstract blue panels.

A Large for a standard mantel. A 4-tile or 9-tile Mural for a long sofa wall, where the curve of the Horseshoe and the plume read at room scale.

Yes, in Dura Satin or Matte. Both handle steam and resist scratching, and the colour stays held inside the ceramic surface.

A soft microfibre cloth and water. No solvents or abrasive pads.

Yes. Reid curates each piece and the tile is hand-finished in Knoxville, Tennessee. Single studio, no licensing, no third-party stock.
