— — the white shoulder above the basin.
“Locals call it Mount Baldy because the summit holds no trees, only weathered stone and snow most winters. From the freeway it reads as a single pale shoulder lifted above the haze of the basin. The trail from Manker Flats climbs hard past the ski hut, and by noon the air thins enough that conversation drops out. from the studio
Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

Mount San Antonio rises to 10,064 feet at the eastern crown of the San Gabriel Mountains, the highest summit in Los Angeles County and the third-highest in Southern California. The peak sits within the Angeles National Forest and the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, designated by presidential proclamation in October 2014. Most approaches begin at Manker Flats above the village of Mount Baldy, with the Ski Hut Trail and the Devil's Backbone serving as the two classic routes to the summit.
At 3,068 meters the air thins enough that the six-mile climb from Manker Flats takes most hikers six to eight hours round trip. Winter approaches require crampons and an ice axe, and the north face holds avalanche-prone snow into May. The summit register, kept by the Sierra Club Hundred Peaks Section, logs visitors year by year. On clear winter mornings the Pacific shows from the top, with Catalina Island floating off the long edge of the basin below.
The trailhead at Manker Flats requires an Adventure Pass, sold at ranger stations and through the U.S. Forest Service. Mount Baldy Ski Lifts operates a chairlift from the village to the Notch at 7,800 feet, shortening the approach by roughly two thousand vertical feet for those who ride up; the Notch restaurant runs through the winter season. The Sierra Club Ski Hut, built in 1935 along the lower trail, remains a working overnight shelter open to members.
