Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

— a queue that does as much work as the ride.

Where it lives

Not only on a wall.

A small tile on the nightstand catching the morning. A larger one above the fire. Yours, wherever you spend the slow hours.
On the nightstand, a 6-inch on a walnut stand
Among the books, a 6-inch leaning into the spines
Beside the kettle, a 12-inch propped
Down a quiet hall, an 18-inch floating off the wall
Above the fire, the 24-inch in a walnut surround

The 3D motion-simulator that took over the Jimmy Neutron stage on Production Central in 2012, with a second version inside Universal Studios Hollywood opened in 2014. Gru's house and laboratory rise at one end of the plaza, the post-show empties into Super Silly Fun Land, and the line for the gift shop is sometimes longer than the line for the ride. — from the studio

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, on ceramic.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem opened at Universal Studios Florida on July 2, 2012, replacing Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast on the Production Central soundstage just inside the park's main gate. A second installation opened at Universal Studios Hollywood on April 12, 2014, taking over the former Shrek 4-D theatre on the Upper Lot. Both run a motion-simulator film by Illumination Entertainment, with Steve Carell reprising the Gru role. Universal Orlando Resort sits north of International Drive, off Interstate 4 in Orlando, Florida.

the visit

The ride runs during regular park hours and is included with general Universal Studios admission. The height minimum is 40 inches with a supervising adult and 48 inches to ride alone. A stationary seating bank is available for guests who would rather sit out the motion-base. The post-show empties into Super Silly Fun Land, a Minion play area added in 2014 with a wet-play zone called the Bahama Mama splash pad. Wait times peak in summer and around winter holidays.

the year

The attraction is the anchor of a larger Illumination footprint that has reshaped Universal's parks since the first Despicable Me film opened in 2010. The franchise has grossed over four billion dollars worldwide across five features and two Minions spin-offs. Universal opened a full Minion Land at the Orlando resort in 2023, extending the original plaza with a second ride, Villain-Con Minion Blast, and new themed dining at Bake My Day. The Hollywood version remains a single-attraction footprint inside the Animation Studio Store building.

about the place

There are two installations — one at Universal Studios Florida in Orlando, on the Production Central plaza, and one at Universal Studios Hollywood on the Upper Lot, inside the former Shrek 4-D theatre.

The Orlando version opened on July 2, 2012, replacing Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast. The Hollywood version opened on April 12, 2014, replacing Shrek 4-D on the Upper Lot of Universal Studios Hollywood.

A motion-simulator attraction. Guests sit in tiered banks of motion-base seats facing a large screen and wear 3D glasses for an Illumination Entertainment short film starring Gru, the girls, and the Minions.

40 inches to ride with a supervising adult and 48 inches to ride alone. A stationary seating section is available for guests who prefer to skip the motion-base and watch the film without movement.

Yes. Steve Carell voices Gru, with Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier, and Elsie Fisher returning as Margo, Edith, and Agnes. Pierre Coffin voices the Minions, as in the feature films.

The Minion-themed play area added in Orlando in 2014, just past the ride exit. It includes a small flat carnival ride called Silly Swirly and a Bahama Mama splash pad zone for younger guests.

about the piece in your home

It's been a thoughtful gift for annual passholders and families with a Production Central memory. A Coaster or Small with a short note from the studio sits well on a desk beside a lanyard pin collection.

Family room and playroom walls, kid bedrooms, and theme-park collection shelves. The piece reads well in eclectic, primary-colour, and pop-art rooms. It also pairs cleanly with framed park maps and ticket stubs.

A single Large reads from across the room. For a longer wall above a sectional, a four-tile Mural carries the scene; a nine-tile Mural is the right call for a dedicated family-room feature.

Yes. Order in Dura Satin for a soft scratch-resistant sheen, or Matte for no sheen at all. Both finishes hold up in humid rooms and wipe clean with a damp microfibre.

A dry microfibre lifts dust. For prints, a barely damp microfibre with plain water clears them without leaving streaks. Skip ammonia, vinegar, and abrasive pads — the surface does not need them.

Yes. Every WenderVista tile is painted in the studio's house visual language and hand-finished in Knoxville, Tennessee. No outside licensing, no third-party prints — one studio, one eye, one atlas of places.
