a note from the studio

A port city on Massachusetts Bay where the Charles River meets the Atlantic. Cobbled lanes lift from the waterfront through the North End and up Beacon Hill. The gold dome of the State House catches the late sun above the Common. Brick row-houses and gas lamps hold their lines. A city that ran the first leg of the Revolution, photographed at the hour the bricks turn the colour of old rope under the harbour light.

Boston, on ceramic.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Boston

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Boston sits on Massachusetts Bay at the mouth of the Charles River, the capital and largest city of Massachusetts. Founded in 1630 by English Puritan colonists on the Shawmut Peninsula, it ranks among the oldest cities in the United States and covers roughly 232 square kilometres, with a population near six hundred and fifty thousand and a metropolitan area exceeding four and a half million. The city anchors New England's economy, education, and medicine, home to Harvard, MIT across the river in Cambridge, and the Massachusetts General Hospital.

The Freedom Trail runs four kilometres through downtown, marked by a red brick line linking sixteen sites of the American Revolution: the Old State House from 1713, the Old North Church from 1723 where the lanterns were hung the night of Paul Revere's ride, Faneuil Hall, the Bunker Hill Monument, and others. Above the Common, the Massachusetts State House, completed in 1798 to a Charles Bulfinch design, carries a gilded copper dome resurfaced in twenty-three-karat gold leaf in 1997. Beacon Hill keeps the gas lamps lit.

the season

New England's four seasons are sharp on the coast. Summers run warm and humid, with July highs near twenty-eight; winters cold, with January lows near minus six and roughly forty-three inches of snow most years. Spring comes late, with cherry and dogwood through the Public Garden in late April. The strongest season is autumn: peak foliage along the Charles and through the Common typically falls in the third week of October, and the harbour light through the long October afternoons is the light the city is most often painted in.

common questions

What people ask.

A few questions we get about Boston — and about bringing the piece home.
about the place

Boston sits on Massachusetts Bay at the mouth of the Charles River in eastern Massachusetts. It is the capital of the state and the largest city in New England.

English Puritan colonists founded Boston on the Shawmut Peninsula in 1630, making it one of the oldest cities in the United States and a centre of the American Revolution in the 1770s.

A four-kilometre walking route through downtown Boston marked by a red brick line, linking sixteen sites tied to the American Revolution, including the Old North Church and Bunker Hill Monument.

Late September through late October brings cool air and peak fall foliage, typically in the third week of October. May and June are mild and green. Summers are warm and humid.

The Boston Massacre of 1770, the Boston Tea Party of 1773, and the Battles of Lexington and Concord in 1775 all unfolded in or near the city. Paul Revere rode from the North End.

The Charles River separates Boston from Cambridge before emptying into Boston Harbor on Massachusetts Bay. The harbour islands form a national recreation area just offshore from the downtown waterfront.

about the piece in your home

It carries well for customers who studied there, grew up there, or worked in the city. The State House dome and the brick row-houses read instantly. A Small or Medium with a handwritten note travels gracefully.

The brick reds and harbour greys sit well in New England Traditional, warm Transitional, and Coastal-modern rooms. The piece pairs naturally with painted millwork, oiled brass, and oak floors.

Yes. The traditional revival continues strong through 2026, and place-specific city art with brick and copper tones layers well with chinoiserie, painted panelling, and antique rugs.

Above a standard sofa, a single Large reads from across the room. For a longer wall, a four-tile Mural carries the skyline, and a nine-tile Mural anchors a full feature wall.

Yes. Order the Dura Satin or Matte finish for rooms with steam or splash. The colour is locked into the ceramic surface, so humidity does not affect it.

A soft microfibre cloth with water is enough for any of the three finishes. Skip abrasive sponges and harsh solvents. The thin glossy or satin layer protects the colour underneath.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original work from a single Knoxville studio, no licensing, no third-party prints. Reid is the curator and the eye behind the line.
