“The home of Bolton Wanderers since 1997, set on reclaimed land at the Middlebrook leisure park in Horwich, with the West Pennine Moors rising above the west stand. The Lobb Partnership designed it, the same office that drew Huddersfield's McAlpine and Cardiff's Millennium. Capacity sits near 28,700, all-seater, with the four cantilever roofs meeting at the corners. The Toughsheet Community Stadium is an all-seater football ground in Horwich, on the western edge of the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton in Greater Manchester. It is the home of Bolton Wanderers FC and seats 28,723, which makes it the largest English football ground outside the top two divisions in current use. The Lobb Partnership designed it for opening in September 1997 as the Reebok Stadium, replacing Burnden Park in central Bolton, where the club had played since 1895.
The four stands are independent cantilever structures that meet at the corners, each roof rising to a flat ridge so the silhouette from the M61 reads as a single low crown. The seating bowl is steeper than most 1990s grounds, which keeps even the back rows of the upper tiers within about 90 metres of the centre circle. The Lobb Partnership, which became HOK Sport and later Populous, drew the ground in the same period as Huddersfield's Galpharm and Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, and the family resemblance shows in the white tubular trusses.
The ground sits inside the Middlebrook retail and leisure park, two miles west of Bolton town centre and about 15 miles northwest of Manchester. Horwich Parkway railway station opened in 1999 next to the stadium on the Manchester-to-Preston line, with most matchday services running a short walk from the turnstiles. Stadium tours run on selected non-matchdays, covering the home dressing room, the tunnel, and the press area; the on-site club museum holds the 1923 FA Cup-winners' medals and the shirt Nat Lofthouse wore for England in 1956.
