Portman Road is a football stadium in Ipswich, Suffolk, in the east of England, and the home of Ipswich Town Football Club. The ground sits between Portman Road itself and Sir Alf Ramsey Way, within ten minutes' walk of Ipswich railway station and the Wet Dock on the River Orwell. Current capacity is about 30,000 across four stands, after redevelopment of the North and South stands in 2001 and 2002 took the ground to its present shape.
The club moved to Portman Road in 1884 and turned professional in 1936. The two managers commemorated in bronze at the gates each led the club to a league title: Alf Ramsey in 1962, Bobby Robson with the 1981 UEFA Cup, before going on to manage England. Ipswich returned to the Premier League in 2024 after a 22-year absence, and Portman Road has hosted top-flight football again for the first time since 2002.
Matchday entry is at the four corner turnstiles around the ground, and pre-match drinking concentrates along Portman Road and Princes Street. The Sir Alf Ramsey Stand runs along the road of the same name and houses the away end. Stadium tours run on selected non-matchdays and include the players' tunnel, the dressing rooms, and the directors' box; bookings go through the club. The ground is roughly five minutes on foot from Ipswich rail station.
