a note from the studio

A pocket of the New Forest given over each winter to Father Christmas. Pine paths strung with lantern light, a husky line, an elves' workshop, the long walk to the log cabin where children meet the man himself. The site opens in mid-November and closes a few days before Christmas. The rest of the year, the woods belong to the deer and the ponies. — from the studio

Lapland New Forest, on ceramic.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Lapland New Forest

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Lapland New Forest is a seasonal Christmas attraction set within the Matchams estate near Bransgore in Hampshire, on the eastern edge of the New Forest National Park. The site sits roughly five miles north of Christchurch and ten miles east of Bournemouth, reached by the A338. The New Forest itself was designated a royal hunting ground by William the Conqueror in 1079 and became a national park in 2005, covering about 219 square miles of open heath, oak woodland, and Scots pine.

the season

The attraction runs only from mid-November to a few days before Christmas, typically six to seven weeks each year. Tickets are dated and timed; the day's route follows the elf trail, the husky camp, the toy factory, and a final meeting in Father Christmas's log cabin. Snow is artificial. Daytime temperatures in a Hampshire December usually sit between 2 and 9 degrees Celsius, so the organisers recommend layers and waterproof boots regardless of the forecast.

the visit

Entry is by pre-booked timed ticket through the Lapland New Forest website; walk-ups are not accepted. Standard adult tickets ran around £36 and child tickets around £42 in the 2025 season, with children under one year free. Parking on site is included. The full experience takes roughly three to four hours and is designed to be walked at the visitor's pace; pushchairs and wheelchairs are accommodated along the main paths.

about the place

On the Matchams estate in Hampshire, England, about five miles north of Christchurch and on the eastern edge of the New Forest National Park. The nearest large town is Bournemouth, ten miles southwest.

From mid-November to a few days before Christmas Eve each year, roughly six to seven weeks. The site does not operate outside that window. Tickets sell out for peak December weekends.

The walked experience covers the elf trail, husky camp, toy factory, ice rink, and a private family meeting with Father Christmas in his log cabin. A small gift for each child is included.

No. Hampshire rarely sees December snow, so the site uses artificial snow along the paths and around the cabins. The pine canopy and lantern light carry most of the atmosphere.

About three to four hours from arrival to exit, walked at the family's pace. Organisers recommend arriving fifteen minutes before the timed ticket slot to allow for parking and check-in.

about the piece in your home

Yes. For families who walked the trail with small children, the tile holds the memory of that one short season. A Small or Keepsake reads well on a shelf among the family Christmas pieces.

The piece sits comfortably in English cottage, modern country, and warm Scandinavian rooms. The lantern-lit pine palette plays well with oak, brass, and the deep green textiles many homes bring out each December.

A single Large anchors most sofas; a four-tile Mural fills a wider wall above a console. For a fireplace mantel, the Medium and Small together carry the season without crowding.

Yes, in the Dura Satin or Matte finish. The colour is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, so steam, splash, and wipe-down cleaning leave the surface unchanged.

Microfibre cloth and water. Nothing else is needed. The thin glossy finish does not stain and does not require polish or chemical cleaner of any kind.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original to the studio. One curator's eye, no licensing, no stock imagery. Reid Wender chooses each place and signs off on every finished tile.
