Chatuchak Weekend Market

— the city you can hear before you see it.

Where it lives

Not only on a wall.

A small tile on the nightstand catching the morning. A larger one above the fire. Yours, wherever you spend the slow hours.
On the nightstand, a 6-inch on a walnut stand
Among the books, a 6-inch leaning into the spines
Beside the kettle, a 12-inch propped
Down a quiet hall, an 18-inch floating off the wall
Above the fire, the 24-inch in a walnut surround
a note from the studio

The market opens at dawn on Saturday and breathes for two days. Around fifteen thousand stalls in twenty-seven numbered sections, packed shoulder to shoulder under tin and tarpaulin, with food carts at every joint and lane. The MRT lets out at the south gate. By noon the heat sits on the roof and the noise becomes its own weather.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Chatuchak Weekend Market

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Chatuchak Weekend Market sits in the Chatuchak district of northern Bangkok, on roughly 14 hectares beside Chatuchak Park and the State Railway line. It is reached by the MRT Blue Line at Kamphaeng Phet, which exits into the market itself, or the BTS Sukhumvit Line at Mo Chit, a short walk to the northern gate. The market runs Saturday and Sunday from early morning until evening, with a smaller wholesale plant market on Wednesday and Thursday and a Friday night session. Roughly fifteen thousand stalls organise into twenty-seven numbered sections covering antiques, plants, ceramics, clothing, books, art, pets, and prepared food.

the air

By eleven the air inside the lanes thickens with sun on metal roofs, charcoal smoke from grilled pork skewers, and the diesel exhaust of tuk-tuks idling at the perimeter. Section 26, the plant market, smells of wet soil and orchids. Section 8, ceramics, runs cooler under deeper eaves. Vendors keep small fans clipped to their racks and ice in plastic bags pressed to the back of the neck. The food court at the southern edge, near Or Tor Kor, draws everyone by one o'clock for boat noodles and coconut ice cream.

the visit

Chatuchak operates Saturday and Sunday from roughly nine in the morning until six in the evening, with a wholesale plant market on Wednesday and Thursday and a Friday night session after six. Entry is free. ATMs cluster near the central clock tower, which is the standard meeting point when groups split. Most vendors take cash in Thai baht; a growing share accept PromptPay QR. The Or Tor Kor fresh market across Kamphaeng Phet 1 Road is open daily and worth pairing with a Chatuchak morning. Bring water and small notes.

common questions

What people ask.

A few questions we get about Chatuchak Weekend Market — and about bringing the piece home.
about the place

The market covers about 14 hectares and contains roughly 15,000 stalls across 27 numbered sections, making it one of the largest weekend markets in the world.

Saturdays and Sundays from around 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. A wholesale plant market runs Wednesday and Thursday, and a Friday night session opens after 6 p.m.

Take the MRT Blue Line to Kamphaeng Phet station, which exits directly into the market, or the BTS Sukhumvit Line to Mo Chit, a short walk to the northern gate.

The 27 sections cover plants, ceramics, antiques, clothing, art, pets, books, vintage goods, and prepared food. Sections 22 and 26 are known for plants; section 7 for ceramics.

Yes. Chatuchak is commonly shortened to JJ by locals and on signage. The Thai name is Talat Nat Chatuchak. JJ Green nearby is a separate, smaller night market.

The market moved to its present location beside Chatuchak Park in 1982, after operating at Sanam Luang in the old city since 1942.

about the piece in your home

It carries well for someone who lived in or near Bangkok. Chatuchak is a weekly ritual for many residents and a strong sense-memory for visitors. A Small or Medium with a handwritten note ships well.

The tile reads well in Maximalist, Jewel-tone, and Tropical-modern rooms. The dense colour and pattern suit a layered space rather than a minimal one.

Yes. Tropical-modern in 2026 leans into saturated colour and place-specific art over generic palm prints. A Large or Mural of Chatuchak gives the room a single grounded reference.

Above a standard sofa, a single Large or a 4-tile Mural reads at the right scale. For a longer wall, a 9-tile Mural sits comfortably.

Yes, in the Dura Satin or Matte finish. Both resist scratches and clean with a microfibre cloth. The Glossy finish is meant for framed wall display, not work surfaces.

A soft microfibre cloth with water is enough. The colour is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, beneath a thin glossy finish, so it does not lift.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is made in our Knoxville studio under Reid Wender's eye. We do not license stock art and we do not resell other studios' work.
