Where it lives

Not only on a wall.

A small tile on the nightstand catching the morning. A larger one above the fire. Yours, wherever you spend the slow hours.

a note from the studio

Goyang sits just past the northwest edge of Seoul, a planned city of just over a million that grew up around Ilsan Lake Park. Each spring the International Flower Festival fills the lakeside with tulips and the city with visitors. Bukhansan rises to the east. KINTEX brings the trade shows. The lake holds the centre, and the city walks around it. — from the studio

Goyang, on ceramic.

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Goyang

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Goyang is a city in northwestern Gyeonggi Province, immediately across the city limit from Seoul. Its population is roughly 1.07 million, making it the tenth-largest city in South Korea. The municipality is divided into three districts — Deogyang, Ilsandong, and Ilsanseo — with the Ilsan New Town development of the early 1990s forming the planned core. Seoul Subway Line 3 and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line both run through the city, putting central Seoul about forty minutes away by rail.

the water

Ilsan Lake Park opened in 1996 at the heart of the Ilsan New Town. The artificial lake covers about 30 hectares and is encircled by a 4.7-kilometre walking and cycling loop, with a singing fountain, an island garden, and a traditional Korean village pavilion. It is often cited as one of the largest artificial lake parks in Asia. The park draws Goyang residents at sunset and hosts the Goyang International Flower Festival each spring along its banks.

the season

The Goyang International Flower Festival runs along Ilsan Lake Park each spring, typically late April into mid-May. The event has been held since 1997 and is one of the larger horticultural festivals in South Korea, drawing more than a million visitors most years. Tulips dominate the early weeks; iris, peony, and rose follow. Goyang's other anchor event is the autumn KINTEX trade show season — KINTEX, completed in 2005, is the largest exhibition centre in Korea by floor area.

about the place

Goyang has a population of roughly 1.07 million, making it the tenth-largest city in South Korea. It is divided into three districts — Deogyang, Ilsandong, and Ilsanseo — built around the Ilsan New Town plan of the early 1990s.

Ilsan Lake Park is an artificial lake park at the centre of Ilsan, opened in 1996. The lake covers about 30 hectares, ringed by a 4.7-kilometre walking and cycling loop, and is one of the largest artificial lake parks in Asia.

The Goyang International Flower Festival runs each spring along Ilsan Lake Park, typically from late April into mid-May. Held since 1997, it is one of the larger horticultural festivals in South Korea and draws over a million visitors most years.

about the piece in your home

It has carried well for customers with family in Ilsan or the broader Goyang area. The city is rarely tiled in Western art, so the gift reads as informed rather than touristic. A Small or Medium with a studio note travels well.

It sits well in Japandi, modern Korean, and warm minimalist rooms. The lake-green and tulip-pink palette of the stained-glass treatment carries the spring colour of Ilsan without leaning saccharine.

Yes. Japandi and Korean-modern interiors are currently favouring soft-focus local imagery over abstract art. A ceramic tile of a beloved neighbourhood lake fits that direction more cleanly than a print would.

Above a standard sofa or long console, the single Large carries the lake horizon best. A 4-tile Mural opens the park around it. A Keepsake or Small suits a hallway niche or a writing desk.

Yes. Order the Dura Satin or Matte finish for any wet or vertical install — both are scratch-resistant and steam-tolerant. The Glossy finish is for framed wall art in dry rooms.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original work from our family studio in Knoxville, Tennessee. Reid Wender curates the atlas of places and signs off each one. Nothing is licensed in.
