a note from the studio

A hill town above Kuala Lumpur, an hour up by road or twenty minutes by the Awana cable car. The air drops ten degrees on the way up. The lights of the resort burn through the cloud most nights, and the casino floor never knows what time it is. People come for the cool, for the rides, for one room above the weather.

about Genting Highlands

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Genting Highlands sits at about 1,800 metres in the Titiwangsa range, in the Malaysian state of Pahang, roughly fifty kilometres northeast of Kuala Lumpur. The hill station was opened in 1971 by Lim Goh Tong, who routed the access road and built the first hotel near the summit. The resort complex, Resorts World Genting, holds Malaysia's only land-based casino, the Genting SkyWorlds theme park, and a string of hotels. The Awana SkyWay gondola climbs from the lower town to the resort plateau in about twenty minutes.

the air

The climb is what people come for. Kuala Lumpur sits near sea level and runs hot and humid most of the year; Genting averages around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius, with mist that closes in by mid-afternoon and stays through the night. The cloud layer often parks at the resort level, so the upper hotel floors look down on a white plain with the city's heat well below. Rain is frequent. A jacket that would feel absurd in Bukit Bintang is the right one to bring up the hill.

the visit

Most visitors arrive from Kuala Lumpur. The drive up takes about an hour via the Karak Highway and the Genting access road, which climbs in steep switchbacks; coach services run from KL Sentral and Pudu Sentral throughout the day. The Awana SkyWay cable car connects the lower mid-station to the resort plateau and runs late into the evening. The Genting SkyWorlds theme park reopened in 2022 after a long redesign. The casino at Resorts World is the only land-based casino in Malaysia and is restricted to non-Muslim adults.

common questions

What people ask.

A few questions we get about Genting Highlands — and about bringing the piece home.
about the place

Genting Highlands is a hill resort in the Malaysian state of Pahang, about fifty kilometres northeast of Kuala Lumpur, sitting near 1,800 metres in the Titiwangsa range. The drive from the capital takes about an hour.

Two routes. Coach services run from KL Sentral and Pudu Sentral up the Karak Highway in about an hour. The Awana SkyWay cable car takes over for the final twenty-minute climb to the resort plateau.

Elevation. The plateau sits near 1,800 metres above sea level, which holds temperatures around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius year-round, against Kuala Lumpur's tropical heat at sea level. Cloud often closes in by afternoon.

Yes. Resorts World Genting holds Malaysia's only licensed land-based casino. Access is restricted to non-Muslim adults under federal law. The casino floor operates around the clock from the main hotel complex.

Lim Goh Tong began clearing the access road in the 1960s and the first hotel opened in 1971. The resort has grown across six decades into a hill town with hotels, theme parks, and a cable car.

Genting SkyWorlds is the outdoor theme park on the resort plateau. It reopened in 2022, replacing the older Genting Outdoor Theme Park, and runs a mix of family rides and IP-licensed roller coasters.

about the piece in your home

It travels well to anyone who knows the hill. Many KL families spend childhood weekends up at Genting. A Small or Medium in glossy finish with a handwritten studio note carries the feeling of the cloud line.

The cool blues and lit-window golds of Genting at night sit well with Modern Tropical, Jewel-tone Maximalist, and Asian Contemporary rooms. Pair with dark walnut or rattan rather than oak.

Yes. The piece reads as cool-air mountain through a tropical lens, which is the texture tropical-modern rooms reach for: cloud cover, lit verandas, the suggestion of altitude inside a warm-climate home.

A single Large covers most sofas comfortably. A 4-tile Mural is the right scale for a long console or sectional, and a 9-tile Mural anchors a tall wall above an entry bench.

Yes. Order the Dura Satin or Matte finish for vertical installations in bathrooms, kitchens, or showers. The colour is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure and holds up to humidity.

A soft microfibre cloth and water. No abrasive pads, no solvent cleaners. The colour lives in the ceramic surface, so the piece cleans the same way a tile floor does, gently and occasionally.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is original work from the Wender Studios family in Knoxville, Tennessee. The eye is Reid Wender's. No licensing, no third-party art, single studio.
