“An island across the Badung Strait from Bali, drier and harder than its neighbour. Limestone cliffs fall five hundred feet into water that runs from pale jade to a darker blue further out. Kelingking spreads its long ridge above an empty cove. Goa Giri Putri tucks its temple into a cave on the north shore. Manta rays come close to Manta Point through most of the year. — from the studio
Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

Nusa Penida lies in the Badung Strait, about twenty kilometres southeast of Bali, within Klungkung Regency. The limestone island covers roughly 202 square kilometres and carries a population near 45,000, mostly along the calmer north and east coasts. The highest point, Bukit Mundi, reaches 524 metres. Fast boats from Sanur on Bali cross the strait in about 40 minutes to the main port at Toyapakeh. The island, with the smaller Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan to the north, forms the Tri Nusa group of southeastern Bali.
The waters around Nusa Penida belong to one of the most current-driven dive sites in Southeast Asia. Reef manta rays gather at Manta Point through most of the year, with sightings reported on roughly 90 percent of dive visits. Crystal Bay, on the western coast, draws divers from July through October for the chance of mola mola, the oceanic sunfish that rises from deep water to be cleaned at the reef. Surface conditions in the strait shift quickly; afternoon crossings can be rougher than morning ones.
The island is reached by fast boat from Sanur on Bali, typically a 40-minute crossing for around 250,000 to 400,000 rupiah one way. Most visitors hire a scooter or driver for the day; the steep limestone roads to Kelingking, Angel's Billabong, and Broken Beach take longer than distances suggest. Pura Penataran Ped on the north coast and Pura Goa Giri Putri above the eastern shore are open daily to respectful visitors in a sarong, with a small donation expected at the gate.
