a note from the studio

The first Disney park built in mainland China, opened in June 2016 on a site east of Shanghai's Huangpu River. The centerpiece, the Enchanted Storybook Castle, is the tallest and largest at any Disney park, drawn to hold its own against a city of skyscrapers. The land around it carries lanterns, lotus ponds, and a Garden of the Twelve Friends with the zodiac reimagined in Disney characters. — from the studio

Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

about Shanghai Disneyland Park

The place, in three passes.

A little of what's known, in case you fall down the rabbit hole — or want to go see it yourself.
the place

Shanghai Disneyland is a theme park in the Pudong New Area of Shanghai, the principal park of Shanghai Disney Resort. It opened on 16 June 2016 after roughly five years of construction and operates as a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group. The park covers about 91 hectares and is organized around seven themed lands, with the Enchanted Storybook Castle at its center — at roughly 60 metres, the tallest castle in any Disney park worldwide.

the visit

The resort is reached on Line 11 of the Shanghai Metro, which terminates at Disney Resort Station a short walk from the main gate. The park typically opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes by 8:30 p.m., with seasonal extensions for fireworks. Single-day tickets are tiered by date through the official site and authorized partners. The Premier Access pay-per-ride option, introduced in 2021, replaced the original FastPass system on the headline attractions.

the year

The park leans heavily on the Chinese calendar. The Spring Festival run, anchored by the Garden of the Twelve Friends near the castle, is the year's signature stretch, with a parade and a refreshed Mickey-and-the-zodiac character meet. Mid-Autumn brings lantern installations along Mickey Avenue; summer adds late-night fireworks. Zootopia, the park's eighth themed land and the first dedicated to that property at any Disney park, opened in December 2023 and reshaped the seasonal rotation.

common questions

What people ask.

A few questions we get about Shanghai Disneyland Park — and about bringing the piece home.
about the place

The park opened to the public on 16 June 2016 after a grand opening ceremony the day before. It was the first Disney park in mainland China and the sixth Disney resort destination worldwide.

The resort is a joint venture between the Walt Disney Company and Shanghai Shendi Group, a consortium of Chinese state-owned companies. Shendi holds the majority economic interest; Disney manages park operations and creative direction.

The castle stands about 60 metres tall, making it the tallest and largest castle at any Disney park. Unlike previous castles, it represents all Disney princesses rather than a single character, and houses a walk-through attraction and restaurant.

Shanghai Metro Line 11 terminates at Disney Resort Station, a short walk from the main entrance. The station connects through to downtown Shanghai and to Hongqiao for high-speed rail transfers.

Zootopia, the park's eighth themed land and the first themed to that property at any Disney park, opened on 20 December 2023. Its headline attraction is Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, a trackless dark ride.

Eight, as of the December 2023 opening of Zootopia. The other seven are Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle, Tomorrowland, and Toy Story Land.

about the piece in your home

It has carried well for customers marking a first family trip or a milestone visit. The castle silhouette and lantern colour read immediately to anyone who has walked Mickey Avenue. A Small or Medium with a handwritten note ships well.

The Voynich treatment gives the castle a stained-glass weight that sits in maximalist, jewel-tone, and storybook-modern rooms. It also works as a single colour anchor in a child's room without reading as character merchandise.

It reads as an heirloom piece rather than licensed décor, which has matched the trend toward storybook-modern and curated children's rooms. The colour palette is rich enough to carry the wall on its own.

Above a sofa, a single Large carries the wall. For a wider focal wall above a console or bed, a 4-tile Mural brings the castle to full presence; a 9-tile Mural is the choice for a primary feature wall.

Yes, on the Dura Satin or Matte finish. Both are scratch and humidity resistant and suit a backsplash or a powder-room feature wall. The Glossy finish is for framed display rather than wet zones.

A soft microfibre cloth with plain water handles routine dust. For a kitchen install, a mild soap solution is fine. Avoid abrasive pads, bleach, and scouring powders on every finish.

Yes. Every WenderVista piece is curated by Reid Wender and produced in-house at the Knoxville studio. The studio does not license artwork from outside artists or stock libraries.
