— — a room the whale sharks made dim and blue.
“A marine park on Hengqin Island, the south end of Zhuhai, sharing a channel with Macau. The whale-shark hall opened in January 2014 and still holds the record for the largest aquarium tank in the world. Visitors move slowly along the long acrylic wall while the big animals turn, and the room dims to the colour of deep water. from the studio
Each tile is finished by hand in our Knoxville studio. Artwork is slowly infused into the ceramic surface under high heat and pressure, and rests beneath a thin glossy finish. The colour lives in the surface, not on top of it.

Chimelong Ocean Kingdom sits on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, Guangdong, directly across the Lotus Bridge channel from Macau. The park opened on 28 January 2014 and covers roughly 132 hectares of themed zones, hotels, and aquariums. Hengqin is part of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area, reached by the Hengqin border from Macau or by car from central Zhuhai in about thirty minutes. The whale-shark exhibit anchors the park; the rest of the grounds wrap themed areas for polar bears, dolphins, and belugas around a central lake.
The whale-shark tank holds 22.7 million litres of seawater and was certified by Guinness World Records in 2014 as the largest aquarium in the world. The viewing window in front of it is a single curved acrylic panel measuring 39.6 metres wide by 8.3 metres tall, another Guinness-certified record. Five Guinness titles were awarded to the park on opening day, including the largest acrylic underwater viewing dome. The water in the main hall is kept dim and cool so the colour reads almost the same as open ocean.
The park opens daily, typically from 10:00 to 21:00, with a single-day adult ticket priced in renminbi and tiered by season. Most international visitors arrive through Macau and cross the Hengqin Port border on foot before taking a short shuttle to the gate. Allow a full day; the whale-shark hall, the beluga show, and the central parade each take roughly an hour. Strollers and lockers are available near the main entrance, and the on-site Chimelong Hengqin Bay Hotel sits a short walk from the park.
